Required as part of the safety inspection (STK) in accordance with
EN 60601-2-52 : 2016-04 and EN 60601-2-38 : 2001-01
201.9.1.101 *Protection against the patient becoming trapped in non-moving parts

Checking the distances between the spars under load

Same load test here between the rail and the lying surface
Faster, safer, and clearer testing process
Switch on test cone, position between side rails, pull, positive test result indicated by acoustic signal
Test time per bed side 10-20 seconds.
functional description
The switch position I or II is used to select the test force (50N/250N) and to start up the device. The test cone is then positioned at the point to be tested and, by pulling on the handle, the load is applied to the grid. When the selected test force is reached, an acoustic signal is emitted, indicating that the test has been passed. If the test cone could be pulled through the side bars without a signal sounding, the test is considered failed.

Requirements for side rails according to standard
By definition, openings and areas must not be larger than 120 mm and must withstand testing with a defined test cone applying a test force of 250 N [EN 60601-2-52] and 50 N [EN 60601-2-38]. In section 201.9.1.101 of the standards, the corresponding openings or areas are marked with A(x). Table 201.101 describes how and at which points on the side guard (side protection) the test is to be carried out.
Conducting the audit
This test is considered passed if the cone could not be pulled through the opening or area being tested. The test must be carried out at the weakest point, or at several points on the side guard (side protection), if necessary. As part of the safety inspection (STK) of a nursing bed or beds generally used for medical purposes, a clear assessment of the safety of the side rails (side guards) can only be reliably determined using this defined test procedure.
